The only Mirin I can buy where I live has high fructose corn syrup in it, so I have switched to using Marsala.

Thanks, this article was very enlightening. My husband loves teriyaki and usually purchases store bought teriyaki sauce. I recently found a recipe to make my own teriyaki sauce. The recipe called for mirin but I was unfamiliar with that ingredient. Your article has helped me understand and know more about this ingredient. Now I just need to find a good hon mirin in the US.

Hi Kelly,

Thank you for the question! It really depends on where you are, but at the moment, even Amazon US doesn’t seem to carry true hon mirin anymore. Your best bet would be a well-stocked brick and mortar Japanese supermarket — like Japan Centre in London if you have something similar nearby.
If you happen to be in Japan, the brand I’m currently using is called “Fukuraijun (福来純)”.
